Has anyone played the Warhammer Fantasy RPG for any extended period of time?

I am curious about the game's ability to be played over the course of a longer champaign and wondered if anyone had any experience with it. mrgreen

A long time ago in a gaming galaxy not to far from our own...

Yes. About ten years ago. I jumped to WFRPG from D&D. It's a great system and the career paths are fun for guiding character advancement. It sustained us for a year long campaign with 12 players rotating in/out.

I think at the end of the day, it's all about the GMs ability to coax a system to do what he/she wants it to. WFRPG is a great starting point - character creation is a breeze and the mechanics are cool. Magic is a little complicated, but it always is. I ignored the critical charts in the back (but most folks love 'em).

And the world setting is fabulous.

As long as the system rules haven't changed too much, it's a great game - especially for duration gaming. My players had a blast figuring out their career paths. Cool stuff.

Like Wegzo, my experience with the game was several years ago and with a previous edition. What I really like about it is the career path system. I mean, what sounds better, "I've been promoted from Watchman to Roadwarden." or "I've made it to level 5." Also, as you move from one career to the next, you're not only building up your character, but you redefine him at the same time. That way, over the course of a long campaign the character won't become boring and if you find your starting career doesn't work out like you hoped, there is another one just around the corner. I haven't had much opportunity to look over the new rules, but from what I have seen the career system seems to be essentially the same except for some tweaking of the careers. The only real complexity is figuring out the possible career paths.
