So, with my weekly D&D game on the outs, my game group took the opportunity to throw down the ol' 2d10/2d6 on a little project I've been working on: a conversion of White Plume Mountain, done WEGS-style.

With only four players around the table, though, I had to beef them up just a touch. Our lovely Arks began with a 40/30/20/20/10/10 array, and were locked and loaded with filled-out Ark Cards in less than 10 minutes.

However, the group was squishy as all get out!

Will: Goblin Warrior
Jules: Elf Ranger
Ken: Elf Ranger
Chris: Humnz Mage

Did these kids even know that WPM's artifact weapons were all melee? Apparently not.
Undeterred, they headed in.

Wave
After receiving the eponymous poem from Keraptis, our group set out almost immedately for White Plume Mountain, descending into the central atrium, finding only the bones of a dead gynosphinx and a massive statue of the wizard Keraptis. Three darkened passages led in different directions from this room...

The group decided to head down the central tube, which grew hotter and more humid the further they descended. After winding around, the Mage noticed that the walls were slowly turning from stone into a sheet of water, held back by some force. Ken's Ranger, with a bright idea, decided to poke it with his arrow.

Shaking my head, I asked for an Ingenuity test.

00.

Taking a deep breath, I asked for a Stealth test.

00.

Boiling water flooded in, covering the Elf Ranger and giving him a double INI roll of elemental wounds, even before reaching the chamber containing Wave!

The group forged on (with one wet and cooked ranger!) reaching a massive bubble in the steampipe. Inside, sat several frogmen armed with javelins, a frogman sage, a hideously ugly (She's UGGGGLY!!!) hag, and a hulking, massive frog--the Beast in the Boiling Bubble, better known as BiBBLE.

Dropping into combat, our heroes started off slow, with BiBBLE lancing out with his tongue, pulling over the Warrior next to him. Flanked by BiBBle and the Hag Mistress, things looked bad for the Warrior.

However, the cavalry was en route! The Mage dropped into Ethereality, getting into range for Hands of Ice, while the rangers pelted the Hag with arrows, taking her out of the fight even before she could pull off her Evil Eye ability!

BiBBLE fell beneath a massive Blitz! by the Warrior, who upped Strength and dropped BiBBLE's Invuln. One failed Invuln roll later, and BiBBLE was on the floor...and Wave was in the hands of the Arks, along with the Rod of Ranger's Reach, which stretched the Skolar's spells to the max!

(Next up, Whelm! Stay tuned!)

Mr. Platinum,

Sounds great!

Two Wicked Failures back to back for the Ranger?

Double INI EW, pretty nasty, too!

With no Sage and no Trickster in that party, should be interesting to see how it all goes down.

Looking forward to the next chapter!

Part II: Whelm

After achieving Wave with few problems, the party marched on immediately to the right hand corridor, which was just as hot and sticky as its predecessor. Inside, a massively intimidating sight confronted them: a boiling mud pit, over which sat several platforms, hung from the ceiling with thick chains. Worse still, the room was filled with vicious harpies, a powerful manticore, and...coming from the depths of a sarcophagus on a platform on the far corner, a dwarvish vampire, wielding a huge silver hammer!

Things started off horribly for the party, with the Warrior immediately trying to jump over to the nearest platform...and landing face-first in the boiling mud! It took him 3 solid innings to climb out, taking elemental wounds all the while. Meanwhile, his squishy compatriots had to face down Ctenmiir, the vampire, who was bearing down on them, climbing along the walls.

Whelm's a neat little hammer. You spend a Spoint to charge it up, then spend additional Spoints for d10s of Enchanted Wounds to throw down on whatever unsuspecting adversary is on the receiving end. Ctenmiir, as a 7/77 Master Minion, had a boatload of Spoints to throw down. And unfortunately for Jules' ranger, she was on the receiving end of...

Ctenmiir's Warrior Blitz: d6 x (7 + 4[Warrior Strength up] + 4[44% Good Shot]) plus and additional 6d10 Enchanted Wounds! And of course, the d6 roll...a 6!

With a failed invuln roll, her Ranger was taken from full health down to 0 in one shot! 124 Wounds in one go!

After the Warrior crawled out of the muck and mire, and Ctenmiir's proverbial wad was blown, things let up for the Arks. However, none of them managed to escape the mud pits with any Wounds remaining.

With only their Phew! points in hand, the group set off in search of Blackrazor...and some Insanity points for their beloved Warrior!
