After the battle that ended the major threat of the Hive Fleet Kraken, there was a battle for Baey, as one of the "splinter fleets" from Kraken found its way to that world. Several chapters, including the 2nd Founding Chapters of the Revilers, Angels Vermillion, and the Imperial Fists of the First Founding, came to their aid.
Baey has been a prosperous trading world, and the loss of such an important hub of commerce for that area of the Imperium would cripple the economy of the entire area. So, when the Tyranids were first detected on their inbound trajectory, a distress call went out, and the Space Marines sent in their closest chapters to defend the world. They arrived just in time to be able to, in their minds, hopefully stave off any major damage. To their surprise, the Tyranids were more numerous than initial reports had indicated, and the battle was more intense than anyone had anticipated!
Even though the Tyranids gained large amounts of ground during the initial fighting, they remained confined to one continent. That continent housed the majority of the military power for the world, which is why the Tyranids landed there, but was sparsely populated otherwise.
After a fierce spat of fighting, a group of marines was cut off from their respective chapters, mainly from the Revilers, Angels Vermillion, and the Imperial Fists. Their numbers were rather limited (some reports had them at no more than 30 in number), and they had no support in the way armor. So, to the Tyranid Hive Mind, they were a minimal threat. They were pinned back, and then thoroughly ignored while the hordes of aliens pushed against the main fighting force, other than a small group meant to keep them from the fighting.
This small group of Marines were able to fend off the almost second thought assaults without any major casualties. A sergeant from the Imperial Fists, Ocoa Lamond, took command of the group since he was the highest rank. There was a Imperial Fist chaplain with them, and he was adament that this ragtag group of marines should form an assault and push into the heart of the Tyranid force. "The Emperor will protect us, and we will be his Spear that will be thrust into the heart of this Xenos incursion!!". With this, Sergeant Lamond worked the Marines into a zealous fervor, with the further help of the chaplain, preparing for the thrust. During this time, Lamond even took some time to fashion a spear from his power sword and some other materials that were handy, so that his Marines had a visual representation of the fighting that was to come to focus on.
At one point, the Tyranid force containing them seemed a little thinner than it had been, and Sergeant Lamond decided he was going to take a risk and blast his way out of where they were pinned. Such was the fervor that the Imperial Fist Sergeant had for defeating the aliens that he led the Marines out of their cover! After several days of fighting, they happened upon a group of aliens that were on their way to reinforce the front lines against the main Marine battle force. Among those reinforcements was a Carnifex. Since the Hive Mind was preoccupied with the main Marine battle contingent, the Carnifex was caught off guard, and with the combined firepower of a Lascannon and Plasma cannon devastator, the small group was able to fell the mighty Tyranid! After the creature collapsed, Lamond approached the beast, and plunged his spear into its eye, as a symbol of his zeal for the Emperor.
His men were further inspired, and they pushed harder against the center of the Tyranid force. Since the reinforcing Carnifex was eliminated before it could join the main battle, the Marine battle force was able to fight its way towards them, and they eventually were able to rejoin forces and defeat the Tyranids. When all was said and done, Lamond met up with the rest of the Marines with 25 of his original 30, meaning during the entire battle after they were separated, Lamond only lost 5 Marines! Since the rest of the force sustained close to 40% casualties, Lamond was seen to have the protection of the Emperor, and was deemed one of his Champions. The planet of Baey was saved from disaster, and the economy of the sector was saved from collapse.
After the battle, Lamond attempted to bring his entire group into the fold of the Imperial Fists, since he now considered all of them part of his command. The Imperial Fists refused, as they did not believe that the Revilers and Angels were fitting to be Fists, and his own men refused to join the Fists as well. The Chapter Master of the Imperial Fists attempted to force Lamond and his Fist men to rejoin the Chapter without the others, since it would make the Fists all the more influential to have another Champion in their midst, but Lamond decided to demand that he be left on Baey with his men so that there was a military presence in case of another splinter fleet of Tyranids decided to show up. The Imperial Fists agreed, and so Lamond was left on Baey. The chaplain that helped to inspire them during the battle was so inspired, himself, by their deeds that he also decided to stay as well.
After a short period of time, Lamond changed the colors that he and his men wore to a combination of the colors that they each wore, to include Red, Grey and Black. He had a large citadel built on the continent where the fighting had occurred to be their bastion. Even though he was not recruiting, men streamed to the citadel and the number of Marines increased.
Upon hearing that there were Marines that were not organized by a Chapter that were increasing in number, the Emperor send an emissary to Lamond to ascertain whether they were Heretical or not, even though the story of Lamond had even reached the Emperors ear. When the emissary arrived, he was in awe at the devotion that Lamond and his men gave to the Emperor, and he declared Lamond Chapter Master and that the Marines on Baey were a new Chapter. When asked what name Lamond wanted for his Chapter, he declared them to be the "Sanguine Spears".
Over the numerous battles through the years after the formation, most Chapters still do not officially recognize the Spears as a Chapter. But, whenever in battle alongside of their brothers, those who fight with them are impressed with the zealous dedication that they have to the Emperor and the Imperium. So much so that the Sanguine Spears have almost 3 times the normal percentage of chaplains compared to other Chapters! Quite a few chaplains have defected from their chapters because they see how dedicated the Spears are, feeling that their service to the Emperor would be greater if they were fighting alongside of the Spears!

Ok.... here is my paint scheme: Very simplistic, but I feel it's very easy to duplicate and looks decent. (It's a WIP, so it's not up to my normal detailing standards.... But, it conveys the look I felt would go with the story)
