I know it's like a million years away right now, but TTG is already planning on what we should do for Gencon 2008.

The big question is this: What do you think TTG should do about Gencon 2008? For those of you that didn't go to Gencon 2007, most of the small time gaming groups where kicked out to other buildings hidden in some basements...

Do you think it's worth it for TTG to run events at Gencon? If so, what do you think TTG should look into running?

Just like Origins 2008, we are still in the beginning of the planning phase, so anything is open game! twisted

Thats crazy, I thought the whole idea of moving the Con to Indy was because there was going to be more space and closer housing. Has the Con grown that much over the last few years?

I think it would be cool if TTG ran a few event at the Cons. What type of events are you thinking of, most of the gaming companies are going to have some activity for their product and I really see it being difficult to pull people from those events.

Once they get the new Colts Stadium built, the city is going to knock down the RCA Dome and add more space to the convention center. So hopefully that will fix that problem.cheesygrin

Hopefully that is the case. It was difficult running around trying to find the game in question. Normally we pack in the games, and most times we have about 5-10 minutes to get to the next one.

I really like that style and would hate to change it eek

Anyway, for games...I was thinking something like "Rogue" events, where we run something different than the "normal" junk.

So, let's say we decided to run a 40K event. Instead of running something "normal' and "boring" we would come up with something really really awesome, like a massive city fight, 4 on 4 event or something awesome like that.

That is what I am talking about... something that will rock hard! twisted

"Games hidden in basements..."

Sad, but true...

cry

Not to mention gamers who have to find their GM who set up unbeknowst in the wrong room to tell them that the game is actually supposed to be in the basement...

redface

Or was that just a ploy by the TTGers to get me to run a game just for them in some subterrain hidey hole?!? Hmmmmm...

OK - my feeling is that GenCon has expanded to another gaming realm. RPGs are being scheduled quite a distance from the con itself and the amount of time it takes to get from one game to another is a scheduling hassle... I can't see how they are going to remedy this. It's an inCONvenient truth...

Origins, not nearly comparable in size, actually buffers each game with a 15 minute window to allow gaming comfort. And the con is self-contained in one convention center! For me, Origins is becoming the better value for my gaming dollars.

I used to love both of these cons for the same reason - gaming.

Now, I dunno.

Kain:

Wacky idea...

How about a forum dedicated for Origins chatter and one for GenCon chatter? If the chatter takes off, it might be too much for one thread alone.

Might be a little much, tho'...

so be it...jedi

And I demand WEG's attendance to the Gencon! Good lord man, TTG requires it! razz

Just kidding...but seriously, Gencon did seem like a "Electronic" gaming convention with some table top gaming! eek

TTG is still planning on going, and currently is planning on running something, but it is going to be interesting to see how this functions!

Anyway, I think we (TTG) need to post some polls and see what people want to do.

Heck, maybe we will have the "Take on the TTG Chapter Challenge" for 40K, now that would be awesome! cheesygrin

Don't worry - I'll be there and WEGS will be on the menu.

I'm just saying that I'm looking forward to Origins more this year.

That's all!

That was because they (GenCon LLC) were trying their hand at getting all the 'electronic RPG people' to come to GenCon. If that worked out then the plan was to try to entice E3 (the electronic games show) to merge with GenCon for an even bigger con.

The original plan was to try to meld E3 with GenCon SoCal but GC SoCal... died. Not that I think it'll happen to GenCon Indy, but they are looking at ways to bump up attendance and revenues. Not a bad thing, that's why the MMORPGs and computer games. As a exhibitor - I was kinda glad they were all grouped and put off in their own area. There is nothing like paying several thousand dollars for the privilege of getting a space and selling at GC only to have crowds of folks looking at video previews of some game mindlessly drooling in front of your booth - facing the wrong way and blocking from the people who want to come over and spend their money with you. from

Anyway - after the RCA Dome is trashed there should be more room. But less hotel space since they are whacking a couple of hotels for the space to do the new stadium. I don't think the hotels are going to rebuilt for a bit. confused

Thats everything we know (or have been specifically told) to date about CG Indy 2008 and all that.

And does that party end some time the following Monday?

mrgreen

It'll be a good way to kickstart the con, though! I'm figuring I'll get my game sched together in early January for the summer cons. Can't wait to start planning!

Hmmmm.
Maybe we could set up GenCon2008 on 'Second Life'. You could _charge_ people the SL bucks (whatever they are) to given them a bad experience. wink

Oh well. It will be interesting to see what happens this year. The electronic gaming area is back - the question is if they will fill it more than half way during registrations and expand the aisles to make it look full (like last year), or if thy will sell it out this time.

The overall size of the space is smaller this year by a bit and it is in the _back_ of the exhibitor hall this time as opposed to the front. Overall, I think GenCon will be moving back towards it's RPG/minis/boardgame roots.

Especially with 4th edition D&D being out then.
