With Origins looming over the horizon, it's time to post a little something for the midnite special.

The winner of the poll was 99 Low Level Orcs.

The losers will be the players!

twisted

I will be posting some notes on the encounter on Monday, so check back for an update.

In the meantime, I'm thinking of starting each player a Trove item; if you have an enchanted weapon or magic item that you think will be helpful for this encounter (i.e. one that can decimate orcs in a jiff), drop an idea below. Nothing that aids/abets healing! This ain't gonna be that kind of game!

Some ideas of the Trove are:

--Wand of Flameballs (Mage)

--Staff of Smithereens (Sage)

--Ogma's Majestic Hammer (Mystic Warrior)

--Arrow of Many Piercings (Ranger)

--The Snickering Dagger (Trickster)

--Sword of Cleaves (Magic Warrior)

--Electerz's Shocking Shield (Any)

--Ring of Skolarification (Any)

Got trove?

And perhaps...

Just perhaps...

Ogma's Orb of Obliteration

(as we didn't get a chance to let that one rip last year)

The stats for the aforementioned enchanted items have been forged.

These are truly weapons for mass eradication of thine enemy!

I'm printing two sets of these cards, so you folks can fight amongst each other for who gets what.

I can't help but note, El Willy, that Mystic Warrior is above as an ArkOption.

Does this mean that we'll be seeing a Copper class amongst our compatriots? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

Sorry, Mr. Platinum! No copper preview...

I was just listing who the item might be best for.

For me, Mystic Warrior = Paladin. I was just trying to make sure I had all the old skool bases covered!

These enchanted items are a bit of a playtest though; these are def going to warp the game and give the players some shock and awe capabilities.

These are designed to take the orcs down!

Maybe...

Despite the fact that 99 Low Level Orks did not go off as planned, I was still able to get one of these trove items in play:

Wand of Flameballs

It was thrown into Spointer's Dingbitt's Dunge O' Doom overflow session on Sat. night. As promised, it was a weapon of mass orkage and the power of the enchanted item spoint drained the Mage who wielded it in combat (just like it was meant to).

Here's the stats:

Wand of Flameballs
Ingenuity% Test
Cost: 1 spoint per use
A ball of flames shoots out of the wand and hits a target up to 12 SQR away. All squares within 2 SQR suffer (d10 x spoint charge) elemental wounds. Spoint charge is the number of spoints an Ark spends to charge the item. As there is a 1 spoint cost to use, max charge is set by the Ark's SPS (minus one).

As you can see, you want to spoint charge this sucker as much as possible.

Hence, the drained mage...

There's always a price for power...

im sorry but that is still over powered, because if u get a mage with a 9 sps, which in a long dingbits is possible, then they can 1 shot lvl 88s.(cheating much)

Dude, if you've been playing long enough to have a 9 SPS and have managed to stay alive the whole time....you deserve to be able to one-shot 88s. You're that badass, anyway.

And, even then, it's only a 10% shot to do so.

Actually, an 88 should have 9 health chips, which you wouldn't be able to one-shot anyway. The most you could deal in one shot is 80 health (1 Spoint to activate the wand, 8 Spoints dropped on the charge. 8x10=80). As such, he'd have 1 health chip left...and that's IF he doesn't have a blood chip.

Yes, it knocks him down pretty significantly, but as I said--if you're sporting a main stat over 90%, you deserve a pretty powerful tool.

Mr. Devil,
Yup - it's all part of the shock-n-awe. I think this is the most powerful of the enchanted weapons, though... At 2 spoint fee would curb some of its power.

Maybe it will be in Sat. night's Dingbitt's at Dexcon this weekend. In the hands of the minion's, of course.

twisted

Mr. Platinum,
You're right. Big Arks need Big Power to unleash. This warps the game though in the sense that the Mage forgets all about their spells and sinks all their power into their new shiny!

I hope to test out a couple more of these WMOs at a con this weekend.

Details will follow...

I have to disagree with the premise that mages will forget about there spells when they get the new shiny weapon, because dropping a molten storm to provide line of sight issues and tapestry to get out of dodge are always usefull.

True, but you can't devalue the Frodo effect!

The temptation to use the item will always, always gnaw away...

Any chance on spilling the beans on some of the other WMOs? I'd love to see how Ogma's Mystic Hammer shapes up against the Crom Faeyr or Mjolnir...

You got it!

Name changed to Ogma's Maj Hammer

Attack Bonus
Ogma's Maj Hammer
"Deal out some majesty all around!"
Cost: 1 spoint + charge
After a successful Prowess attack, the hammer deals an additional (d6 x spoint charge) enchanted wounds on target.
Also, (d6 + spoint charge) are inflicted to all opponents touching the Ark's square or the struck opponent's square.
Roll single d6 for both wound totals: multiply by spoint charge for target, add spoint charge for secondary effect.

It's really best for a Dwarf holy warrior type who has bumped their Grace way up; doing so shows their dedication to Ogma (and of course, the hammer)!

Didn't test this sucker, so it might need some tweaks...

Ogma's Maj Hammer got quite a workout yesterday. Of course, since most of the Weapons of Mass Orkage required both a spointe to activate and additional spoints to power, they weren't as overpowered as some may have feared. A good number of them also required a stat test (begging for spupping) to activate. The real trouble will begin if an Ark with one of these beauties starts boosting their relevant Realm stat and boosts their SPS!

The Weapons that made an appearance included:

--Wand of Flameballs (Mage)

--Staff of Smithereens (Sage)

--Ogma's Maj Hammer (Mystic Warrior)

--Arrow of Etherfire (Ranger) (not sure of the exact title on this one but when used, it was nasty)

--The Snickering Dagger (Trickster)

--Electerz's Shocking Shield (Any)

Surprisingly enough, the Arks were saved in the end by a ranger taunting one of the Blind Dead into attacking him (and his Electerz's Shocking Shield!) Thus turned the tide of the battle at the last moment!

The Prof
Next time I'm dealing myself some weapons as well! cry

Wow, that's some power play!

Give players a little power and it doesn't take them long to figure out the best way to use it against ya!
