Earlier this month, me and the Prof ran some WEGS at a local game store. We run something there called "Open WEGS Wedsnesday" or the OWW, where we hunked down and WEGS it up on a Weds night with some local gamers. This was the second time the OWW group was meeting.
The first session we ran them against the Blind Dead (where I jumped in as an Elf Ranger named Gluff). One of the players, a Mage, had run through
B1 Hobgobble's Eve and was fortunate to have obtained the Hobgoblin King's Spear O' Flame. During the encounter, I convinced the Mage that it would be best for me to "borrow" the spear as I was a Ranger and would be more effective with it. She was convinced of this, too, handed me the spear and then charged into the fray with her compatriots (who were terribly outnumbered). About three innings later, safely at a distance, I realized the battle was not going well for the Arks, some were considering running off the battlemat. I took this as my cue to exit first (as I was on the edge of the mat), leaving them at the mercy of the Blind Dead, but more importantly, exiting away with a shiny power weapon for future use! Boffo victory in my book!

The second game had all of the first session's Arks back (they did survive) and one new player. I wasn't needed as a player (but this didn't mean Gluff the Elf Ranger wasn't going to make an appearance...). This time we were going to introduce them to the Bull Frog and Harem Toads (this month's soon to be released MoM). Before this encounter, we decided to give them a small encounter to warm them up, and teach the new guy the ropes.
I can't remember the creature itself (some sort of swamp critter) but we gave it a poisonous bite that drained one point of Strength from every stat. So, you get bit once, all your Strengths drop by one point. Two bites, two points, etc. These were low level minions (maybe 5/55s), but they had a powerful bite.
So, about three innings into this encounter, Gluff The Elf appeared on a nearby hill and starting firing at the Arks (they were tracking him because they wanted the magic spear back). So, on top of some very nasty minions, they have enemy fire raining down upon them! For game purposes, we determined Gluff was "off the map" about 80 SQR away (it would take someone a very long time to reach his vantage point on the hill). The best part is that they didn't have a Ranger to return fire. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.
The encounter was turning vicious for the Arks, as both of their Warriors spent their time hacking at the swamp critters, who were biting back. By the end of the encounter, both Warriors were paralyzed (their Move was reduced to zero due to the poison) and their Warrior Strength was pathetically weak. One warrior was trying to spoint move off the board just to survive.
So much for an easy starting encounter...
And then we brought out the Bull Frog and Harem Toads!
Now they know why its called the OWW...
