A little experiment for the WEGS forums...

I'm gonna throw down a sample encounter and assume that all of the Arks have succeeded their Act Fast! test. Let me know what your next three actions are (and why). Just state your Ark, race and whatever detail you think jives (like why you chose a Ranger over a Warrior, etc).

Why three actions? Well, we always joke that "experienced" WEGS players think "three innings out".

Here goes!

evilevilAct Fast!evilevil

The party is besieged by an 8/88 Master Sage and her zombie minions.

She enters with Fear My Lyrd up and wields a staff that glows with hellish energy (reverse Sphere of Light spell).

With her are twenty 5/55 zombie guards, all of which take -1 off the Damage Die roll and have 30 Enchanted Wounds (so after you wipe out their normal Wounds you have 30EW to go).

Her next three actions will be either:

Sense Mystic + Sense Mystic + Spell Blast

or

Sense Mystic + Spell Blast + Sense Mystic

Don't forget that she gets 2 Actions Per Inning, so she will be moving quick. The reverse Sphere of Light will do (SPS+L) wounds to the living (that's 12 Wounds to any Ark she engages), plus reduces their prime stat by 10%. She can also restore wounds to her zombie guard in this fashion (they would get one chip back / 10 wounds per inning).

Act Fast, folks!

Playing my own game here...

Gluff the Elf Ranger
Action 1: Sure Shot
Action 2: Blitz with RS+ and INV- to Undead Sage
Action 3: Underbelly to Undead Sage

As one of the few Arks who will be unaffected by her Fear My Lyrd, I'd concentrate my fire on her alone (until the zombies closed in on me).

I'd also slip a note to a Skolar to get me an enchantment on my bow!

Action 3 move/(fear my lyrd/Clash of spheres/ Sphere of light) if i didn't last inning

Who else but Nordling could interpose in this situation?

1--Catlike Tread. That gets me (given a good starting roll) 6 squares of movement, starting me skulking around the sides.

2--Nothing but move. Get into position behind the mage, at which point I'll suck up the Sphere of Evilosity's damage at the Spante.

3--Skorp. Failing that (as she may well move away), set up either a Trickster Blitz (Move/Attack) or a Sneak Attack, depending on who's nearby.

Now, that's if that's a "Regular" Nordling. If this is an Extra-Special Nordling--a la last year's Midnight Madness game--the plan changes. At this point, we add in a Sense M/M first, followed immediately by either Bless with Fire or Enchanted Weapon. From there, we enter Catlike Tread and start taking out Zombies with abandon.

Mr. Devil,
You could overlap her Sphere only as far as you can approach her. You have to stay 4SQR away from her, so the only thing achieved is that you counter her Sphere, but not her Fear.

Mr. Platinum,
You won't be able to approach her due to the Fear My Lyrd.

She's got a double Nordling repellent up and running!

Hmm...that changes the game, then. We'd need to essentially have the Mage pump off a Molten Storm, then find ways to keep her in it. Perhaps something in the neighborhood of two Sages, pinioning her in with Spheres of Light. Either she'd take the Sphere damage, or the Molten Storm damage, or both. As I found out in a recent D&D PvP event, auto-damage always trumps chance of damage.

From there, the Warriors and Tricksters take care of crowd control--take out as many zombies as possible, with Sagely assistance, as possible. Bless with Fire and the like become a must, to take care of the pesky Enchanted Wounds.

Rangers, as usual, sit in the back and plink away, preferably with Enchanted bow.

Calling down the big guns, eh? So, what you're saying is that you are countering her Fear My Lyrd with your No... Fear MY Lyrd spell? If the spell was OLPS driven (it's not, but I've been tinkering with the update to it), this would put you ahead of her. BUT, BUT, BUT... Master Minion's get to add their Level to their Prime Stat, making her an 96% Grace (88+8).

and thus is the cycle of life for the Goblins of the 'Shroom Eater clan. We are born of the shroom, live the will of the 'Shroom, and when our wheel turns, we die, so the Shroom my grow through our bodies and claims our ever-living soul.

Too damn funny, and another classic moment from the never-ending Dingbitt's we ran at GenCon 2007...

hmmm... i think you're onto something there...
1. Sense Mystic
2. Move / Resist / Blast
3. Skill Free Inning (for using Act/React)

Of course, I'll probably counter with Resist...

Any one else coming at me?

heh...we still never finished that little stint. All you're new minions get in the way of the classic. Nothing like playing just the Hottie and I at a small little table with you and the team. Hell I don't even think you had a printed ruleset yet! twisted

Hoping to release the "classic" dungeon later this year (late fall) with a WEGS Bestiary and Dingbitt's Dunge O' Doom combo book (i.e. here's the dungeon and all the beasts you need to fill it with).

And there were always Elves, man! That 3R Chart hasn't changed at all. You guys just didn't have time for them!confused

the undead sage isn't resisting your Resist Mystic, she's resisting your Clash of Spheres. Just as you're using it to thwart her spells, she's going to do the same to yours. Assuming we both succeed the 77 roll... I factored in my SFI in the earlier reply. Yeah, it's gonna be inconvenient, but she'll survive!

Wait, wait, wait! WHAT question

Details, please! The WEGS-lovin' public wants to know...

(...and, for that matter, wants to know how the hell I missed this little tidbit the first time around!)

yup...

the plan is to release the dingbitt's house rules, include a dungeon bestiary and the trove rules all in one neat looking book. that's the third part of the WEGS 101 trilogy.

we gotta give folks all the info they need on dungeon dingos, right?

So, um....at the risk of being over-eager, with my ever-shrinking wallet (now that we've closed on the house and all...)

WHEN?! :D
