Hey folks,

Here's the official blast for Origins 2009 WEGS Events. Limited event sched as we're focusing on the booth demos. We'll also be posting info on TTG regarding our WEGS Power Play sessions and the Midnite One Shot (one encounter, one big baddie, some assorted lesser minions and tpk is the goal)!

Info on that stuff coming soon!

Here's the promo blurb and sched:

===============================

GameWick Games and the Wickedly Errant Game System will be at Origins 2009!

You can find a WEGS game every night at 9 pm at Origins. We’ll also be running demos all day at our booth in the convention hall. So, come on over and see how WEGS is played. More details will be posted on our Origins booth events in June (like WEGS Power Play sessions and the Poker Deck Contest run by Flying Buffalo).

Here’s the WEGS event sched:

Wednesday, 9 pm
(Event #6120)
Dungeons and Turdragons
A rag-tag assortment of Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Gnobbits and Humnz find themselves lost in Trollspittle Swamp, a dismal land swarming with Hobgoblins. To make things worse for the party, it’s the night before the Great Hobgobbling Feast and they're within sniffing distance of hungry, hungry Hobgob hunters and their vicious turkey-dragons. Will the party make it out of the swamp, or are they destined to be hobgobbled up? Get ready for some poker chip tossing, sword-n-sorcery adventure with WEGS, the Wickedly Errant Game System!

Thursday, 9 pm
(Event #6531)
Keep on the Badderlands: Minotaur Meat!
A stalwart band of sword-n-sorcery heroes are hired to rescue a wealthy merchant’s daughter from the dreaded labyrinth of the Minotaur! Those who dare enter become dazed and confused, so it's up to the party to pull it all together, rescue the maiden and find their way back out (all the while hoping to avoid the 800 pound Minotaur lurking about)! Game starts with a quick character generation and then it's off to see the Mino! Get wicked with WEGS, the Wickedly Errant Game System! Old skool dungeon fun with a brand new set of dice under the hood!

Friday, 9 pm
Event #6931
The Tale of the Trojan Pig
Ready for something completely different? A party of stalwart sword-n-sorcery heroes lay hidden inside the belly of a wondrous wooden pig that sits in the courtyard of the evil Troll King’s keep. As they await nightfall and their chance to sneak out and raid the castle from within, the party suddenly realizes they’ve forgotten one important thing: nobody packed the weapons! This isn’t the stuff that legends are made of, but it will be a wicked little intro to WEGS, the Wickedly Errant Game System.

Saturday, 9 pm
Event #7307
Dingbitt’s Dunge O’ Doom
Old skool dungeon thrills with WEGS, the Wickedly Errant Game System! A rag-tag assortment of Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Gnobbits and Humnz are plunged into a dungeon chock full of treasure, traps and monsters. It’s up to the players to decide what it is they want: fabulous treasure, worthy opponents or, perhaps, just to find a way out? It’s amazing how priorities change when they’re no longer on Dungeon Level 1! WEGS is a brutally simple and simply brutal system! For crying out loud, pick up your dice and jump into the fray!

See ya in Columbus!

I'm planning on being in all 4 games (though I won't know until at least tomorrow since Origins SNAFU'd their event registration today). If I'm awake enough, I'll jump into the Midnight Madness (which night will it be?). I'll probably also check out Power Play Thursday and/or Friday.

Kain - that is a roll that lives in Origins infamy! And probably the quickest any one has ever been knocked out of a WEGS game. What was it... 6% NDE in the third or fourth inning?!? Shoulda blown a Phew! point (but you knew there was a mummy waiting in the wings...).

Power Play details and Midnite One Shot details will be forthcoming (early June).

So...

Is Origins pre-registration live or no?

Getting conflicting messages on their home page.

Not too long to go!

It's up. They finally got it up and working around 12:30 or so on Tuesday 5/12 (though at that point it was so slow that it took 40 minutes to order event tickets when I had all of the event numbers and entered them into a single search).

I love Origins and I've never run into any major issues at the con (whereas GenCon seems to have major computer issues on-site every year) but Origins online event registration has been a mess every single year. They frequently get new systems which don't seem so much an improvement as a new set of problems.

I'm big fan of Origins, too, and roll with whatever issues they have. I got three emails telling me that online pre-reg was delayed, but none saying it went live. I guess there were/are lingering issues still that prevented them from sounding the horn!

I sat in the GAMA board of directors meeting at the GTS this year. Their site was a big point of discussion, so there's hope for next year. I think those fine folks are doing the best they can with what they've got.

It's not run as corp as GenCon, but that's not a bad thing.

To be blunt, we almost weren't going to make it to Origins this year. After the system lost our pre-reg 4 times within the first 2 days, Lionel (who does our registration, as the primary GAMA contact) was ready to hang it up.

Part of the biggest problem we have with Origins event-reg is the amount of time between when the events go out and when they go live. This year (as it was last year), they were scheduled to go live less than 24 hours after being posted. That's a rough amount of time to put together a group schedule, particularly when you're carting around 8 or so Witt-Weggers!

I understand that GenCon has a new registration system, which is really intuitive and much more stable. I'm hoping that Origins follows suit with it, next year.

and that's the bulk of the difference between the two cons (Origins and GenCon).

with Origins the stress and craziness happens before the con (registration) but it's a pretty relaxed atmosphere once you get there.

with GenCon there's less stress before hand, but it's a madhouse once you arrive (registration, finding game locations, tickets, crowds).

they actually compliment each other in this way for folks going to both; the stress points are spread out!
