Hey, I was checking out Starcraft the board game, and was curious if anyone had the chance to play it?

It looks awesome, but the time it takes is a major set-back for me and the group I play with. Any experiences with the game?

I forgot about that one. If I get it this week I will let you know what I think of the game.

$80, it does seem a little high, but that seems to be the trend in board games lately. It is tough to get one for less the $50 and if it has a ton of swag with it then $75 and $80 seems to be the norm.

Yeah, it's sad... I want several games but I'm having a hard time justifying the $$$ when I don't get to play the board games with any regularity.

Okay, so here is how it works.
After taking the 900th piece of plastic out of the box, and separating them out into sides on a very large table, you pick random planets to be the goals for fighting. Like Catann. the first player puts out a planet, then it goes around the board with player attaching planets, and the last player does 2 and then goes the other way around to the first player. (during placement you pick one of the planets you put out to be your home planet, and start there. Then warp points/stargates/hyperspace links are placed at the open points. You have 3 different orders you can do in a turn; Build, Mobilize, and Research. You get to do 4 orders, so you can repeat one or more. You place your order counters face down on the board on the planets you are going to execute them on. One order stack is made per planet, and they are done in reverse order of placement. Last in - first out. In building, you make units, build bases, and upgrade your manufacturing facilities. In Mobilize, you move forces via transports, or on planet, and fight battles if you encounter the enemy. Battles are split down to the smallest fights - one on one if possible. Each side then plays combat cards to determine how strong their force is. Winner stays, loser dies. During research, you draw an event card, and can get better technology. Resource management is done simply by putting workers on the gas or minerals used. The game is played to 15 points, unless the one Protoss group is being played and then it is 20. Protoss have the best units, but they are expensive. The Zerg have a ton of cheap units, and the Humans are in the middle. Up to 6 people can play; 2 per race.

Over all, it is pretty good. It takes a bit to figure things out the first time, but it is a much faster game then Twilight Imperium. We had 3 of us achieve our victory conditions on the same turn - but there are extensive tiebreaker rules.
You will need a big table, and set-up takes a long time.

I give it a thumbs up.
