Of all the space marine chapters that fight in the name of the Emperor the Heralds are probably the smallest currently serving. A very proud chapter, their Chaplains are renowned for their almost fanatical devotion to the emperor. It is a point of honour that at least one serving chaplain in their chapter makes a pilgrimage to Holy Terra to renew their chapters vows of servitude to the Emperor. Once this has been made the chaplain in question is appointed the master of the chapter, which in and of itself is unusual for a space marine chapter but the Heralds take pride in that theirs is a chapter driven by faith in the Emperor first and the writings of Rogal Dorn second.

Theirs is a faith forged on the battlefield, and for each of their bretheren cut down their zeal for victory only redoubles. More recently the Heralds have been seconded under Inquisitor Lord Chronus and his Sisters Repentia troops in several antiheretical missions within the Imperium. The passion and fervor with which they strike at the enemies of their god emperor was second only to that of the Sisters Mother Superior who, it was said, chastised her sisters that their faith on the battlefield was outstripped by the black and red Astartes who fought alongside them. The chaplains that lead their men in daily rites and prayers to the emperor have been known to do the same for the Sisters on rare occasion to help bolster their own faith and to encourage them to seek their own way to prove their faith in the emperor and not rely on the example others might show. After all the Space Marine is the finest Humanity has to offer, hardly a fair standard to compare a mere Sororitas to.

The majority of their force fell during Abaddons 13th Black Crusade and gave their lives to help stem the heretics progression into the Imperium. Now a mere two and half companies remain of the once proud chapter and they serve along side their battle brothers wherever the forces of chaos strike the hardest. Each victory is another act of retribution for the loss they may never fully recover from, yet the fight all the harder for it facing anihilation day to day in the endless wars that threaten the Imperium.

One tactic in particular they have used to great effect has been to send in several squads of Assault marines into the enemy lines carrying teleport homers. While the assault troops sow discord and fear into the enemy position, those that remain of their first company teleport in from orbit and deliver the wrath of the emperor at the end of their thunderhammers .
