Best. Quote. Ever.

I like the way the system is sounding right now, I just want the game to reward roleplaying some more. I know, I'm too old school! redface

The books are interesting, but it doesn't feel like D&D anymore. The boys are anxious to try it out - but anymore I'm not sure if I'll ever play.

Pathfinder from Paizo sounds much more interesting to me lately.

I played my first game of 4th ed. last night! Gotta say I like it! Definitely streamlined a few things, but I think it's mostly for the better.

Managing your at-will, encounter, and daily powers really makes combat more interesting than just making the same attack roll every round like in previous editions.

Man, sounds like I will need to pick up the books then...after I pay off Origins and 5th edition 40K. Man gaming is expensive! from

That is what I really like about this edition, sadly I doubt I will try out 4th ed any time soon. All the different classes have more personality/style built into them.

My rpg group does not like the change and their arguments against 4th is, there are some character types you cannot play as, or there is too much healing going on, or any other number of internet based negative arguments that you can think of. What is sad is the two people that are the most strongly opposed to the change have not even looked at the new books so they really cannot base their arguments on anything other then what other people have said on the net.

What, like druids and barbarians? They do know they'll be in the next PHB right? Or do they mean they want to play less combat-oriented characters, bcs this edition does seem to put more emphasis on that. Wizards and clerics seem a lot less like robe-clad scholars who never get their hands dirty than they did in previous editions.

This is all relative. We also fought a boss with >100 hp AT FIRST LEVEL. And yes, that was in a published adventure, not a poorly scaled encounter written by the dm.

But to each their own. I wasn;t a huge fan of 2nd ed, maybe that's why I appreciate the changes.

and the Monk and the Bard, but the way the both of them was acting, no matter what I would tell them it was already decided. It was kinda funny they both told me that with 4th ed there was no way I could create my Psion character. My first thought was, but you could not build a Psion from the PHB or DM guide.

Yeah, and the 4th ed phb already mentions that psions may be in an upcoming book, so really, it's all the same. I'm sure bards and monks will probably show up eventually too, but the new classes are pretty cool and I think make up for the ones that were dropped.

But like you said, some people just made up their mind about the game before really looking at it. Happens a lot, I'm afraid.

We're about to start up some 4th edition too. I haven't rolled yet, but I'm thinking of trying out the new warlord, or a heavy ritualist cleric. It's a little frustrating getting the 2 archetypes (Inspiring or Tactical for the Warlord) I'm almost afraid to take the middle road. Has anyone tried this yet?

Warlords are really cool, I was torn, if our party didn't already have two "leader" roles filled, I would have made one! Really a lot more 'in your face' than a typical healer/support class.

Not sure about the two archetypes, though. Like, for my ranger, I could either go bow or two melee weapons, and it really didn't make sense to aim for the middle. But warlords might be different.

ATM I think they warlord is best at going for one of the two rolls. You can try to mix the two, but you are not going to be as effective as one that is more focused. Now with that said I thing that future expansions have a strong potential to add to each class.
