In the RPG My main character was Hida Tomaguchi. Little brother to Hida Chin, legendary warrior of the Crab clan.
Never played the card game though

In the RPG I was always either a Crab or Phoenix (ok, I was once a Crane duelist, but just one time...). In the card game I was always Crab (with some dabbling in the Mantis bask in the Yoritomo Alliance days). My first pack I pulled Hida Kisada and thought that had to be he coolest card ever designed (it's still one of my faves from any CCG) so I as sold on the Crab from that point forward. Mean, gruff, and manning the wall, stopping all the nasties from coming in and trashing the place. I haven't played L5R CCG in a long time though. Some of us tried to get back in at Diamond Edition I think it was and I just didn't like it as well. And Clan Wars... I MISS that game. It was a truly great mass combat game that AEG screwed up the distribution on when they went to Daimyo Edition and pretty much killed it... :(

I play Phoenix, because... 'cause... uhm... they're cool.

Crane: It's all about the benjamins.
mostly I wanted to duel in the ccg, so I was told "Crane or Dragon." I liked the colors for the crane better, so I picked them. In the RPG I have played everything at some point, but I most enjoy Crane, Phoenix, and Wasp/Mantis

Lion Clan, although initially I wanted a Dragon Clan Starter. One of my D&D friends got some cards from Imperial before they were available to buy. He was on Wick's or AEG's message board, and got hooked up from there. I was all over Togashi Mitsu, and Shiba Tsukune. I waited patiently for St. Louis to get some Imperial in late 95, and by the time I got to the only store in town who had it, the rest of my D&D friends had ransacked the single starter display. Lion, Unicorn, and Crane were all that was left. I checked the boxes, and chose Lion and have never looked back. I was lucky and got Tsuko in my first purchase of starter + 5 boosters, and I also got Togashi Hoshi. This was before internet spoilers of the sets were in circulation, so this Dragon Clan Man-beast was an oddity. However one of my friends got a Lion bordered Akodo Toturi, and we were more perplexed with how he worked. I was able to trade my Hoshi for this almost Tsuko-like personality with a Lion border. It was all uphill until Jade, but we stuck with it through thick and thin, and have enjoyed the inevitable ups and downs.

Scorpion: like their style Mantis: they're pirates! Crab: their borderland protecters and Kisada was awesome. Pheonix: just to give the player base a chance to play them. Hardly anyone plays Pheonix. Their honor running was ok.
But I haven't played the game since Words and Deeds came out.

heh, well Celestial Edition is looking to be a very interesting game. They are changing a bunch of things that I think are going to make the game much better. At least from what we've seen from the Imperial Gift, Death at Koten, and Glory of the Empire. Bad ass!

Started as Dragon and continued to play them until I quit the game. I loved their play style (even if it was weak for a while), and loved their storyline.

I haven't played since mid last year prior to the new rules. Back then Pheonix was kind of the suck. They had a decent honor running deck. Have they gotten better? Is Kisada still alive?

If the devs only focused on our honor in celestial I would not be playing anymore. However they have commited to each clan having 4 competitive themes. Our primary themes are now spell honor and spell military.spell military currently works great against most clans except against phoenix honor which is a tad more powerful.

Spider, gotta love actual Sohei for a military monk deck.
Also picked up Unicorn in the tail end of SE to honor the alliance made during the race.
