Hi,
I have already bought the Aurlock starter set. I'm interested in buying the Avalon starter set so that I can play a friend in the hopes of getting him interested in buying into this game. Looking at the point difference in the two sets it looks like I will need to buy something extra for the Avalon side to keep it fair (I would rather not remove any figures from the Aulock starter.) Can anyone please advise which would make a more balanced and fun game between the two sides?
Buy:
Decon Leodegarius
or
Avalon recruits x 3
Thanks in advance for any help.

The Avalon recruits are going to be your best bet. Buying Decon Leodegarius is going to force the game to heavily favor the Avalons.

the wave 4 avalon box has 2 recruits and a crossbow. that will fill out the maximum number of recruits and crossbows you can take in a game. Its a good choice. xbows are a good model, dont scare your friend off with them ;) www.doughamilton3d.com

My friend played the Avalons. The Xbows are great I didn’t stand a chance as we were not playing with any scenery. I lost so badly he even commented on how much I must be trying to get him to like this game :)
Oh well will try with scenery and one less Xbow man hopefully that will produce a much more balanced game.
Quick question on ranged attacks can they be made from behind friendly troops or do they block line of sight?

ok, we use true line of sight, so if you can draw a clear line between your xbow dude and your target, you can fire away.

So if I am understanding right then you can not fire from behind your own troups or from behind cover that is the same size or smaller than your miniature?
I thought that I could target an enemy miniture that is under the cover of another enemy miniature (Behind it and within 1") a cover roll would be made and the arrow would hit the cover miniature if the cover roll was successful? Or does this rule apply to anything within 1" ie the cover miniature can be at the side and within 1" of the targeted miniature thus allowing true LOS to the targeted miniature?

that's a good question. I don't have my rules with me, so I will bow to someone else's thoughts. I'll go see if I can get a "real" answer!

Hi has anyone got an answer to the above? At the moment we are playing true LOS but I would be very interested in knowing if 2 side by side miniatures within 1" of each can provide cover for each other. Thanks Ninelives

Thanks Ninelives We play it true line of sight. If you can draw LOS through a model (friendly or otherwise) they get cover per the size of the model. All we require is that you can see 20% of a "body" of the model. Meaning arms/heads/legs. If you can only see a sword and nothing else, you cannot shot at the dude. We use the "standard" cover rules for dudes blocking LOS.

Thank you very much for clearing that up. Any tips on doing a acurate LOS check do you use a laser pointer or something?

no worries man, sometimes it's tough to get all the rules in line. Well the laser pointer does stop the arguing. If you have a group that's super anal about it, I'd go the pointer route. My group just enjoys gaming, and are not real anal, so we just eyeball it.

Good point I think we will stick to enjoying the game and avoid using a pointer. Have to say the more I play this game the more I'm enjoying it. Now if I could just get everything painted up it would be even better. Still 3 down and 21 to go :)
